
Instructions for Georgia State University College of Law Take Home Exams Summer 2006
Included here are instructions for updating your account in SecurExam if you had take-home exams in the Spring semester AND instructions for creating a new account in SecurExam if you did not have take home exams during the Spring Semester.
If you had take-home exams for the Spring semester, your exam number has changed and will need to be updated in your SecurExam account. Your Summer exam number may be obtained by using your MyLaw ID. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you update your exam number in your SecurExam account as some professors will take off points for using an incorrect exam number.
UPDATING YOUR OLD ACCOUNT FROM SPRING 2006:
1. Go to: http://www.securexam-management.com using Internet Explorer (some errors have occurred when using Netscape).
2. Log in using your user ID (this is your e-mail address) and the password you chose last semester. Hit Log In.
3. Choose Modify My Account.
4. Change your exam number where it says Student ID and click the Update Account button.
5. Click home and proceed to the instructions below on how to register for classes and exams.
CREATING A NEW ACCOUNT:
1. Go to: http://www.securexam-management.com using Internet Explorer (some errors have occurred when using Netscape).
2. click on the "REGISTER: CREATE NEW ACCOUNT"
3. Select "SCHOOL" - Georgia State University College of Law and follow instructions to create an account. IMPORTANT: In the Block indicated for SSN, DO NOT type in your SSN. Use your 2006 Summer Exam ID number. (Don't know your Summer exam number? Use your MyLaw account and look it up).
4. After completing your account set up you will need to register for each of the classes for which you will be taking exams AND each exam.
This is a two-step process (OK, three if you count clicking A home @ ) . First you register for the classes for which you have exams, click A home @ to return to the home page and then you register for the exam within each class.
REGISTERING FOR CLASSES AND EXAMS
STEP 1 : To register for a class:
- Click on 'Register for a class' - a list of classes will appear.
- Click on 'Select' to the left of a class for which you need to register and then click 'Register' at the bottom of the screen. A message will appear that says "Registration for Class XXX was successful".
- Repeat for all of your classes that are take home exams.
After you have registered for all of the courses for which you have take-home exams, select HOME and then select "Register for An Exam."
STEP 2: To Register for an exam:
- Click on "Register for an Exam"
- Click on "Select = to the left of a class for which you will be taking an exam and then click "Register" at the bottom of the screen. A message will appear that says "Registration for X exam was successful".
- Repeat for all of your exams
5. When you have selected to register for the exam you will see the date that the exam is available to download and when the deadline to return the exam will be.
DO NOT TYPE ANYTHING IN THE PASSWORD COLUMN
**Note: The normal beginning and ending date of an exam will most likely coincide with the dates of the exam schedule (July 7-18). This IS NOT true for all cases; please take care to be aware of the particular start and end for your specific exam. Also, any professor-imposed time limits for an exam (i.e. 3 hrs, 72 hrs, 7 days etc.) are still in place and the beginning and end date of the exam should NOT be construed as the length of time that you may possess the exam.
6. When you are prepared to take your exam, log onto your account at the URL listed above under point 1 and select DOWNLOAD EXAM.
7. Save Exam to some place on your computer where you will be able to easily access it. (tip: save it to your " Desktop" so that it will be easy to find)
8. Complete the exam on the document that you downloaded (i.e. use the Word document that you downloaded as your master document to type your exam).
**Note: Save the document to your computer in the following format: ExamID001_SampleClass_ProfSample.doc (i.e. the file name should be your exam ID followed by class name followed by professor name).
** DO NOT PLACE YOUR NAME ANYWHERE ON THE EXAM BUT REMEMBER TO PUT YOUR EXAM ID ON THE TOP OF THE FIRST PAGE**
9 . When you have completed and saved your exam (making sure you are within any time limit imposed by your professor, return to the URL indicated above, log in and click on "UPLOAD AN EXAM". A "BROWSE" box will open; select this button and find your completed exam (a tip: save the exam to your " Desktop" to make finding your exam easy) . After you locate your exam, click upload. You will be emailed a confirmation that your exam was successfully uploaded. Keep this as a record and also keep a copy of your exam on your computer or a disk as a backup copy for any eventuality. DO NOT open/and or manipulate this backup copy. In the event your exam is lost, we could verify that your backup copy had not been modified since you uploaded it.
10. Your exam will be anonymously uploaded. Tricia and Lauren will then have access to open your uploaded exam and have a record of when the exam was checked out and checked in.
11. Return to the home page and click on the "View Exam History". This link will show the dates and times of any exams that you have downloaded and/or uploaded.

Practice Exam: (THIS WILL BE AVAILABLE AS OF 6/28/2006)
Note: It is strongly urged that you take a practice exam in advance of the real thing to make sure you don't have any computer issues and/or any questions about the procedure.
For practice, I have set up a false class Entitled "Practice Class" with Professor Tricia Rackliffe.
- After you have created an account, register for this class.
- Return to the home page and Register for the exam in this class entitled "Doggie Mixology".
- Click on Home and then click Download Exam.
- Save the exam to your computer.
- Complete the exam (if you so choose)
- Save it to your computer as ExamID***_SampleClass_ProfSample.doc
- Return to the home page and click upload (you will then be asked to browse to find the exam). Find the exam and click upload.
- View your exam history and you will see when you downloaded and uploaded your exam
